Configuring Istaria for Improved Performance
When Istaria starts, it is automatically configured for good performance across a number of hardware configurations. You can manually change the video settings to either take better advantage of your hardware, or increase performance.
Video Options
- Open the Options window and select the Video tab. At the top of the window are four major options that can be configured.
- Full Screen Mode > Most users experience better performance in full screen
- Fullscreen Resolution > Configure for the lowest resolution that is comfortable to play.
- Graphic Detail - Selecting an option automatically configures graphic detail settings in the Advanced Video Options. (See below)
- Texture Detail - Selecting an option automatically configures texture related settings in the the Advanced Video Options. (See below)
Setting the Graphic Detail
The following is a good guideline to use when configuring the graphic detail. Setting a higher graphical detail requires a combination of more system memory, CPU and video card memory.
Your computer needs to meet all of the requirements listed - otherwise use a lower graphic detail setting.
Performance
64MB video memory
512MB system memory
1GHz system processor
Normal
256MB video memory
> 2GHz system processor
Quality

> 1GB system memory
> 2GHz system processor
Setting the Texture Detail
The following is a good guideline to use when configuring the texture detail. The more texture memory you have, the higher this option can be set.
Remember that players and monsters take the most texture memory, so if you are testing texture detail settings in a field with no players or monsters, you will likely experience good performance -- until you enter a town or areas with larger numbers of players.

< 512MB video memory

> 1024MB video memory
Advanced Video Options
The Advanced Video Options allow a player to manually configure video options. We recommend most users to use the Graphic Detail and Texture Detail drop-downs to automatically configure settings. The available options are as follows:
- Terrain Clutter Enabled - leave this unchecked to improve performance. This is processor dependant.
- Show Shadows - leave this at blob shadows to improve performance. This is processor dependant.
- Object fading - leave this unchecked to improve performance. This is mainly processor dependant.
Audio Options
Open the Options window and select the Audio tab. Make sure 3D Sound is not checked.
