Uninstalling & Reinstalling Java

If you are having trouble starting the Istaria Launcher, please follow the steps below to uninstall and re-install Java.

Uninstalling Java Components

Automated Method:
  1. There's a new tool available that will automatically search and remove older versions of Java. Please see: http://java.com/en/download/uninstallapplet.jsp

Manual Method:
  1. Close any open programs you may have running, especially your web browser
  2. Click Start > Control Panel
    • Depending on your OS or configuration, you may have to click Start > Settings > Control Panel
  3. Open Add or Remove Programs
    • If you have Windows 98 or Windows 2000, open Add/Remove Programs
  4. Click once on any item listing Java Runtime Environment in the name
    • Not every version of Java will begin with "Java" so be sure to read each entry in the list
  5. Click the Remove or Change/Remove button
  6. Follow steps 4 and 5 as many times as necessary to remove all versions of Java
  7. Reboot your PC once all Java components have been removed
  8. Go to c:\program files\ and delete any folders that look like C:\program files\java\... (where "..." means any characters). This deletes any Java run time environments.
  9. Go to c:\  and delete any folders that look like C:\J2SDK... (where "..." means any characters). This deletes any Java development kits.
  10. Reboot your computer
  11. Proceed with reinstalling Java

Reinstalling Java Components

  1. Open your web browser
  2. Go to http://www.java.com
  3. Click the Free Java Download button
    • The installer should begin automatically. If it does not, click the Manual Download link
  4. Follow the prompts to install Java, agreeing with the license and selecting a typical install
