Uninstalling & Reinstalling Java
If you are having trouble starting the Istaria Launcher, please follow the steps below to uninstall and re-install Java.
Uninstalling Java Components
Automated Method:
- There's a new tool available that will automatically search and remove older versions of Java. Please see: http://java.com/en/download/uninstallapplet.jsp
Manual Method:
- Close any open programs you may have running, especially your web browser
- Click Start > Control Panel
- Depending on your OS or configuration, you may have to click Start > Settings > Control Panel
- Open Add or Remove Programs
- If you have Windows 98 or Windows 2000, open Add/Remove Programs
- Click once on any item listing Java Runtime Environment in the name
- Not every version of Java will begin with "Java" so be sure to read each entry in the list
- Click the Remove or Change/Remove button
- Follow steps 4 and 5 as many times as necessary to remove all versions of Java
- Reboot your PC once all Java components have been removed
- Go to c:\program files\ and delete any folders that look like C:\program files\java\... (where "..." means any characters). This deletes any Java run time environments.
- Go to c:\ and delete any folders that look like C:\J2SDK... (where "..." means any characters). This deletes any Java development kits.
- Reboot your computer
- Proceed with reinstalling Java
Reinstalling Java Components
- Open your web browser
- Go to http://www.java.com
- Click the Free Java Download button
- The installer should begin automatically. If it does not, click the Manual Download link
- Follow the prompts to install Java, agreeing with the license and selecting a typical install
