Network Settings

Basic Network Settings
If you are having trouble connecting and / or encounter Transport Error 11 or 12 the following information should help.

Please check your Windows firewall rules. Istaria.exe and jlauncher.exe should be on the list of applications allowed access to the Internet. Please see one of the following knowledge base articles for help configuring your Windows firewall.
  • For Windows XP, please see http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/networking/security/winfirewall.mspxLet's try to resolve your concern. Follow the steps below on how you can add/allow Firewall exceptions on your device:
  • For Windows 10

    1. Search for Firewall using Cortana or the Search bar

    2. In the Windows Firewall window, choose Allow an app or feature through Windows Firewall.

    3. Click the Change Settings button, and then select jlauncher.exe and istaria.exe to allow access through the Firewall.

    4. Click OK and then the Close button to close the Windows Firewall window.

Network Analysis
Please see the following article on how to analyze your network settings:

Advanced Network Settings
If you have manually configured your router or are not using the standard Windows firewall, you may need to manually open ports. Some firewalls do not automatically open the appropriate ports when Istaria starts. Please note that in most cases, you will not need to manually configure port access. The following ports are used by Istaria for network communication:
Authentication Ports: 47101 - 47104 - UDP Packets (make sure you specify UDP and not TCP)
Game Ports: 47701 - 47704 - UDP Packets (make sure you specify UDP and not TCP)
If that doesn't work, disable the firewall for a short time and attempt to log in. If you are still unable to login, it's possible your router could be blocking ports. Please see your router documentation for information about managing ports.
Disable any virus scanning, spyware blockers, or anything else that monitors your connection.
Download the latest updates for your OS from the microsoft update site.
If you're unsure about setting up your firewall properly, the easiest attempt is to try disabling your firewall, then run Istaria. If Istaria works, then it's certainly the firewall. Make sure that you turn your firewall back on after this test. Please reference the links above (see step 1) for instructions on enabling or disabling your firewall.

Finding the Source of the Problem
To diagnose exactly where the problem is occuring, follow these steps:
  1. Disable the firewall on your router, then try to connect. If you can connect, then it's the settings in the firewall.
  2. Disable the firewall on your computer, then try to connect. If you can connect, then it's your router's firewall settings.
  3. Disable both your computer and router firewall and try to connect. If you still can't connect, then it's one of the following unusual cases:
    1. Your ISP is not routing the packets
    2. Your router is incorrectly NATing packets (mapping the external public internet addresses to your internal address).
Tracing the Problem Over the Network
Another tool to help troubleshoot network issues that seem specific to Istaria is WinMTR, it helps point out if there is a problem with the connection from your ISP to our servers.  You can download it here: https://sourceforge.net/projects/winmtr/
Set the host to 50.22.132.5 and then let it run for a couple minutes.  Copy and paste the results into this ticket so we can take a look at it.
